The Graflex XL Super Wide is an interesting little camera. Because it uses a very wide (47mm) lens it is very compact without folding. Also, because the lens is so wide you can use it without a rangefinder or even a viewfinder. And yet it is a true Graflex system camera with lots of accessories and a Graflok back. Moreover, the camera body can be fitted with either a 4" x 5" or 2" x 3" Graflok back adapter, so it can work in either size system.
Shown here is the complete camera configured with the 2" x 3" Graflok back adapter and a Horseman 6cm x 7cm roll film back. This camera can also be fitted with a Polaroid back or a 4" x 5" sheet film back (although the maximum frame size of the body is 3" x 3.75" or 9.5cm x 7.5cm).
In the photo below you can see the complete disassembled camera. All of the parts in the disassembled view are made to be user-configurable (no tools required).
The parts are (from left to right):
- wire frame viewfinder
- lens barrel and lens
- camera body / focus ring
- Graflok 2" x 3" back adapter
- Graflok ground glass (view) back
- 6cm x 7cm 120 roll film back
I think the Graflex XLSW must be one of the smallest view cameras ever made. But my favorite thing to do with it is to shoot with it without even using a viewfinder - just set the focus (guessing the distance), point, and shoot.
