The Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta A 531 is a small version of its big brother - the Super Ikonta C 531/2. While the C shoots either 6cm x 9cm or 6cm x 4.5cm images, the A shoots only 6cm x 4.5cm and thus is equipped with a wider lens (75mm instead of 105mm).

I love this camera because it's so small and it gets 16 shots to a roll of 120 film. There's no excuse not to carry this camera everywhere.

Like the C, the viewfinder on the A pops up when you open the lens and provides a large, bright clear view of the subject with a white line signifying the edge of the frame. The white line is a reflection of a white frame around the inside of the eyepiece and is adjustable to match the lens alignment and parallax of the camera. This viewfinder is great even if you wear glasses like I do.

Both the A and the C have double exposure protection mechanisms. This links the shutter and film advance so that after an exposure you must advance the film before triggering the shutter again.

Film is advanced by rotating the knob on the top left side of the camera while viewing the numbers on the paper backing of the 120 film inside the camera through a little window on the back of the camera (this is typical of folding 120 cameras).

The Synchro-Compur shutter on both the A and the C ranges from B to 1/500th of a second. The Synchro-Compur on the A unfortunately does not include a self-timer, probably due to its compact size, whereas the one on the C does.
